Uganda Young Voices join huge DPO event

For the first time, Young Voices in Uganda participated in the celebrations for the International Day of Persons with Disabilities. Wearing Leonard Cheshire Disability Young Voices t-shirts, more than 34 members marched in an event that brought together over 35 disabled people’s organisations (DPOs) in Jinja district. Their theme was: “As we count on progress in disability rights today, we call for more inclusive responses to disability and development at all society levels”. The Minister of Disability and Elderly also attended and met Young Voices members, visited the Leonard Cheshire Disability stall, took questions from the public and distributed advocacy materials. Finally, he auctioned products, such as leather shoes, that were made by Young Voices members. The day ended with a meeting of all groups present and pledges of support from the minister.
